CYCLEMIX | Research on the winter operating costs of E-vehicles and fuel vehicles in different countries: China’s E-vehicles are the cheapest to charge, and Germany is more economical to drive fuel vehicles

Recently, marketing and research service organization UpShift released a research report, which compared the operating costs of electric vehicles and fuel vehicles in winter in different countries.

The report is based on observational studies of the most popular electric/combustible vehicles in different countries, calculates their operating costs, and finally draws conclusions by calculating the mileage driven by the driver group throughout the winter. It should be noted that the cost of supplementary energy is highly dependent on the region and driving habits of the user, and the results are for reference only.

The data shows that although electric vehicles have more efficiency losses in winter than fuel vehicles (41% vs. 11%), in most markets except Germany, electric vehicles still have costs in the field of energy supplementation compared with fuel vehicles Advantage. Overall, electric vehicle owners in the report can save an average of US$68.15 per month on refueling costs compared to gasoline vehicle owners when driving in winter.

In terms of subdivided regions, thanks to relatively low electricity costs, electric vehicle owners in the US market save the most on energy supplements. According to estimates, the average monthly charging cost of American electric vehicle owners in winter is about US$79, which translates to about 4.35 cents per kilometer, which means that they can save about US$194 in energy supplement costs per month. As a reference, the energy expenditure for fuel vehicles in the US market in winter is about 273 US dollars. New Zealand and Canada rank 2nd and 3rd on the electricity/fuel saving list. Driving electric vehicles in these two countries can save 152.88 US dollars and 139.08 US dollars in energy refill expenses per month respectively.

The Chinese market performed equally well. As the world's largest electric vehicle market, China's electric vehicle operating costs are the lowest among all countries. According to the report, the average monthly energy recharge cost of electric vehicles in China in winter is US$6.59, and it is as low as US$0.0062 per kilometer. In addition, China is also the country that is least affected by seasonal factors-combining all fuel types, Chinese car owners in winter only need to pay about US$5.81 more for energy supplements per month than in normal months.

The situation has changed in Europe, especially in the German market. The data shows that the cost of electric vehicles in Germany in winter is higher than that of traditional fuel vehicles - the average monthly cost is about 20.1 US dollars. Expanded to most of Europe.
